About Dr. Wilson

What is your care philosophy?

The relationship between a patient and their doctor is like a family relationship – it’s private and personal. It’s not always easy to share details about your health with someone else, and I try to help my patients get comfortable with sharing so that I can do a better job of helping them. I want my patients to let me worry about their health so that they can get on with their lives.  Being a woman gives me great perspective when I meet with patients. I went through two miscarriages before my daughter was born (by C-section), and I’ve also had an IUD.  These personal experiences help me relate to my patients.

What inspired you to pursue a career in obstetrics and gynecology?

I fell in love with being an Ob-Gyn after my first delivery. I was hooked, and I love babies! I have the best job: I get to take care of women during a time in their lives that they will never forget, and I’m so honored to be a part of that.

What improvements to women’s care excite you?

The advancements in medical technology, especially in minimally invasive surgeries, that we are now able to offer patients is really exciting to me. Many women are the main providers in their families, and technology is helping us minimize the time that women would have typically had to take off from work to have procedures done.

What is the biggest misconception about your field?

Many patients have an expectation that exams will hurt or be uncomfortable, and that’s definitely not the case. We take the time to position patients and talk them through the process to help them get comfortable. We can make the experience much easier than expected.

Are you from the DC area?

I grew up in Chicago and then came to the DC area for college and never left. I visit family there regularly, and I don’t even mind the cold Chicago weather! I like to think that I help bring a warm, welcoming Midwest friendliness to our office.

What are your best practical tips for new parents?

Relinquish the thought of being in control. Just go with the flow and do your best. Trust your instincts, and if something doesn’t go quite right, stay positive and don’t beat yourself up.

What is your best advice for staying healthy?

Don’t pay so much attention to numbers. Focus on a healthy lifestyle and don’t rely solely on the scale as the best indicator of whether you are healthy. Focus on a holistic approach to health.

If I wasn’t a doctor, I’d be…?

I would probably pursue a career in technology. When I was in college, I used to take my computers apart and rebuild them, and I even worked in Kaiser’s tech support department. If I wasn’t a doctor, I might also operate my own bakery. I’m a foodie at heart and really love baking and trying new recipes from the Food Network (a favorite of mine)!

What our patients are saying

  • Having spent the duration of my pregnancy with another doctor in her office, I was disappointed he was not on call when it was time to deliver my daughter. However, Dr. Wilson's bedside manner was so warm and personable that I've contemplated switching doctors since and will definitely have her deliver our next child! She came in ready to educate me on ways to comfortably push through contractions and repeatedly said affirming words to my daughter during delivery. Her "happy birthday pumpkin" is imprinted on my mind, and I would highly recommend her to any other expecting mothers. As a Black woman, having a Black doctor made me feel all the more seen and affirmed in my experience.

The BEST OBGYN EVER! I loooove her. She makes me feel safe and secure every time I visit her office. I never leave with questions unanswered. The staff is also very friendly. She will be delivering all of my children moving forward

  • Love... love... LOVE my Dr. Headed in for a procedure. She's been great. Confident that she'll heal once again

I have been to Dr. Wilson twice now. I can't say , of course that my experience has been long term, but so far she has been great. I am quite comfortable with her and hopefully this good start to the patient doctor relationship will continue.
